Modern calipers for disc brakes are like clamps for your rotor. When braking, they put pressure on the brake rotor via the caliper’s brake pads and one or more pistons. The calipers operate by using brake fluid pressure from the master cylinder and pedal to extend the piston and slow the vehicle. The most common symptom of a bad or failing caliper is brake fluid leakage. When you replace calipers, it’s important to also purchase new brake fluid and brake cleaner. You can find replacement calipers here.
